Tree Upcycling Project Annual Exhibition was held from October to December at the Jockey Club – The Conservancy Association Urban Forestry Green Hub and Times Square, taking the social concept of "integration of people and trees" as the theme, provide visitors with a better understanding of the concepts of tree upcycling and sustainable development. Moreover, our Seminar and Sharing Sessions cum Wood Granting Ceremony was held in November, in addition to sharing from NGO representatives, we have also invited a number of speakers from different sectors to share with you how to integrate trees into the community to build a sustainable community.
Every year, our Field Trips will lead participants to visit different areas of Hong Kong, while everyone is getting close to nature, they can also learn about local trees and green resources, explore the precious treasures that nature has given us. Last year, we visited Fu Tei Au Village, a non-indigenous squatter village rich in natural ecological resources, famous attractions in the village include "Sky Tree" and "Flower Sea Fish Pond".
Chinese New Year is around the corner, everyone is planning to do a general cleaning before the new year to sending off the old and welcoming the new. Hold on, let's stop and think! Have you ever thought that we can actually upcycle some of our unwanted items by transforming them into interesting gadgets? In our Taster Workshops, participants were guided by the instructor "Eco-Dad" Norman, using recycled wood materials to create playful and environmentally friendly items such as pull-back boats, one-string guitars, wind turbines. Integrating environmentally friendly design and transformation into daily life is something we can all achieve.
Every year, our Tree Upcycling Youth Wood Workshops is a big heat! In addition to deepening students' understanding of traditional wood crafts and upcycling, all woodworks will be donated to local NGOs for those in need. Jockey Club "Tree Upcycling" Youth Co-creation Project is organised by HKDI DESIS Lab (Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability), with sponsorship from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, a tree upcycling and sustainable development project co-created by youths. It encourages young people to learn about local trees, integrate social innovative design and craftsmanship, regenerate local tree resources, and promote the social concept of "harmony between human and tree". The three-year "Tree Upcycling" project organizes a series of educational and community activities every year, covering three major areas – understanding local trees, transforming and recycling wood and encouraging social co-creation.
