We had a great time last week at our 2nd "Tree Tour Hong Kong"! Participants highly praised our ecotour guide from IVE Shatin for being well prepared, which allows them to better understand native tree species. Had lunch at Lion House Club, where the owner shared with us the decoration of traditional Lion Dance. Visited Chi Kee Sawmill & Timber in the afternoon, despite the possibility of being demolished in the coming months, Chi Kee invites the general public to give wood a second chance by purchasing from them.
Instructor Dave Ho (Chipgodguy Studio) demonstrated the step-by-step procedure, from grinding to nailing, to making a gyro. All wood products will be donated to local NGOs.
Our 1st "Tree Tour Hong Kong" was completed today! Thank you all for your participation. We hope you enjoyed our tour and understand more about local tree species through our ecotour guide from IVE Health and Life Sciences (Sha Tin) Tree Management. Our lunch at the Lion House Club was nice, and we finished up our trip by visiting Chi Kee Sawmill & Timber!
Throughout all the world’s cultures, trees have always had an intimate connection with us physically, biologically, and emotionally. Apart from providing us with food, shelter, and clean air, trees are silent witnesses to our transient existence, as they remain rooted in one place throughout their lives. However, trees are as mortal as human beings. They constantly face existential threats arising from the damages inflicted on the environment by mankind’s insatiable appetite for consumption and thoughtless expansion. Pollution, deforestation, logging, urban expansion, and climate change pose clear dangers for the future of trees, as super typhoon Mangkut unforgettably demonstrated in 2018, leaving 55,000 trees devastated in its wake. This exhibition acknowledges the vital role that trees play in our daily lives and explores some of the most advanced ways of protecting, preserving, and nurturing them to ensure future generations can continue to enjoy the benefits that trees bring to us.
"Tree Care Tour" is a technical session under Hong Kong 2022 International Urban Forestry Conference. Lecturer from IVE Health and Life Sciences (Sha Tin) Tree Management was invited to give a guided tour on urban tree care, share interesting tree stories and some basic knowledge about visual tree inspections. !
